The Southeast Consortium for the Assessment of Proficiency in Foreign Languages (SCAPFL) is a non-profit organization headquartered in North Carolina. The organization was founded in 2023 by a group of world language educators, program administrators, and professionally trained language assessors, to provide professional, reliable, independent assessment of students' foreign language proficiency.

We are currently in the process of developing assessment instruments for Spanish, German, and Japanese, the first of which are expected to be available for pilot testing in the spring of 2024.

Our plan is to eventually be able to provide free assessments that public high school and state and other non-profit university language programs can use to (1) place students in courses appropriate to their level, (2) document their students' proficiency at various levels, (3) identify potential weaknesses in their curriculum, and (4) assess their language program's effectiveness in achieving their expected student learning outcomes. Students taking these assessments will receive an official certification of their abilities in multiple skill areas.
